Mary B. Cliffe, of White Plains, NY was born in Rye on September 18, 1933 to Harold and Georgene Blanchard. She made her transition from this earth to the Presence of the Lord on Monday, February 27, 2017 at the age of 83. Mary is survived by her three sons John (Brenda), Adam (Alison) and Paul (Dorian) and her six grandchildren, Maya, Tannar, Caleb, Jacob, David and Aidan, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband James A. Cliffe of White Plains, NY, her sister Jacqueline Blanchard of White Plains and her brother Donald E. Blanchard of Whitesboro, NY. Mary grew up in Rye and graduated from Rye High School in 1951. After her marriage to Jimmy in 1958, she resided in Silver Lake and became an active member in Memorial Community Church. She later moved to White Plains where they raised their family. Mary worked out of her home as a secretary for several doctors which later led to her position at the American Psychiatric Association. She became the first Executive Director of the Westchester and Bronx District Branches of the APA. She enjoyed her work; writing newsletters, coordinating many events, and attending symposiums in Washington, D.C. Mary served for over 25 years and retired, to the regret of her colleagues, in 2003. Although she was a career woman, Mary always made time for her children’s sporting and social events. She was a loud and supportive fan. Camping, swimming and ice skating were among Mary’s favorite activities. She also enjoyed attending Camps Farthest Out (a week-long Christian retreat) with her whole family. Friends may call at the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Avenue at South Broadway, White Plains on Thursday, March 2nd from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A funeral is scheduled for 11:00am on March 3rd at Harvest Time Church (1338 King Street, Greenwich, CT) with interment to follow at White Plains Rural Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mary’s life.
