Mary Fassella Biruk (Grams as she was fondly known by many) passed away on January 29th 2023 at the age of 95 at the Sarah Neuman Home in Mamaroneck, NY.
She was born in New Rochelle, NY on December 22nd 1927 to Giuseppe and Caterina Fassella. She attended New Rochelle schools and graduated from Albert Leonard High school in 1945. She went on to marry Nicholas Biruk in 1949. Nicholas predeceased her in 2002.
Mary worked several part time jobs over the years including a stint at IBM while raising her 5 children with the help of her sister Rose. She was very out going and was loved by everyone who met her.
A daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend; Mary will be remembered for opening up her heart and home to numerous gatherings over the years where all were welcome. She enjoyed card games, bingo, slot machines and Atlantic City along with her husband and family.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband Nick, their oldest daughter Kathryn Ravida, along with her 5 brothers Vito, Frank, Nicholas, Marcello and Salvatore Fassella and 2 sisters Rose Fassella and Josephine Paganico.
She is survived by her children Patricia (Neil) deLuca, Linda (John) Porpora, Michael (Marisella) Biruk, and Karen (Michael) D Amore and her 13 grandchildren Jo-Ann (Joseph) Tetro, Susan Ravida, Neil (Nina) deLuca Jr, Matthew (Sharon) deLuca, Carrie-Ann Ravida, Russell deLuca, Jaime (Richard) Nappi, Daniel Porpora, Nicole Imondo, Michael D Amore, Michael Biruk, Arielle Porpora, Victoria (Ryan) Anderson and 15 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Hawthorne Funeral Home, Hawthorne NY on Thursday, February 9th 4-8. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 10th at 11 AM at Ferncliff Chapel in Hartsdale, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Sarah Neumann Nursing Home Pavillion 2 recreation department attn Larry Abrams.
