Martino Racanelli of Bedford, New York passed away on April 10, 2011 at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. He was born on December 9, 1936 to Alessandro and Domenica Racanelli in Sannicandro di Bari, Italy. Martino was a founding partner and operator of Racanelli's Pizza & Brew restaurants, a long-time Westchester landmark. He emigrated from Italy to Canada when he was eighteen and then to the United States when he was twenty. After working in various odd jobs during his early professional life, he founded Racanelli's Pizza & Brew in Greenburgh, New York in 1971 with a number of his brothers. Over the next forty years, Martino and his partners opened and operated twenty different restaurants in Westchester County, Rockland County, Long Island, Connecticut and New York City. Martino enjoyed Italian soccer, collecting wines, gardening and, most of all, interacting with all his customers at his restaurants. Martino is survived by his loving wife Rose of Bedford, New York, and their four sons: Alex of Danbury, Connecticut, Vito of New Fairfield, Connecticut, John of Manhattan, New York, and Martin of Harrison, New York. His is also survived by his in-laws, Maria and Vito Mossa of Bedford, New York, his two daughters-in-law, Mary and Andrea, his two granddaughters, Katherine and Madeline, nine brothers and sisters and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
