Martha L. Garment of Tarrytown passed away on September 27, 2006. She was born in New York City on March 28, 1910, the second daughter of Lazar and Leah Levine. After graduating at age 16 from high school, she received her BA degree from Hunter College of the City of New York in 1930, and immediately began a teaching career which continued for the next 50 years, until her retirement in 1980.
On June 29, 1934, Martha married Dr. Edward M. Garment, a specialist in Diseases of the Chest, and set up many temporary homes with him during his Army and VA Service before moving to Fishkill in 1945, finally settling in Tarrytown in 1967. Dr. Garment died in 1974.
She is survived by a devoted son and daughter-in-law, John and Jeane Garment of White Plains, two loving grandchildren, Jeremy and Julie Garment, both of Denver, CO., and two sisters, Edith Woolfson, of St. Helena, CA., and Hilda Lord, of Adams, NY.
