Mark M. Kapikian, a resident of Yorktown Heights since 1968, passed away on September 14, 2006. He died peacefully in his sleep at home. Mr. Kapikian was born in the Armenian Quarter of Jerusalem to Azniv and Garabed Kapikian on January 24, 1924. Prior to emigrating in the United States in 1950, he worked in the Intelligence Division of the British Royal Air Force in Jerusalem. After arriving in the United States, he settled in New York City. Mr. Kapikian never forgot the victims of the war that he left behind in Jerusalem. Upon arriving in the U.S., he set out on countless fundraising missions with his brother, Bishop Guregh Kapikian to help support the refugees in the Holy Land. Mr. Kapikian was also very active in his church and served as a Deacon in St. Gregory Armenian Church in White Plains. He was a very gregarious, charming, and courageous man. He was a good historian and enjoyed telling stories. He was a good listener who gave great advice and consolation to those who were fortunate enough to have known him and sought his advice. He liked to travel and was an avid gardener. He also enjoyed tinkering around his house with his carpentry projects. Most of all, he was a family man who enjoyed being around his children and grandchildren. He leaves behind his loving wife, Helen, of 50 years, and five children, Garo of Milford, Ct., Melanie, Hygan, Manya &Azniv Kapikian. Mr. Kapikian is also survived by 5 grandchildren.
