Marjorie Watkins Timmons, known as "Tweet", died peacefully on Sunday, March 20th, at age 85. She was born in Delaware, Ohio, but spent almost all of her life as a resident of White Plains. Tweet graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1947, where she held various records as a swimmer and prepared both for admission to medical school and participation in the summer Olympics. The impact of World War II altered her plans, and in 1946 she married John Timmons. Tweet worked in advertising and in travel, and served in many volunteer capacities. At the White Plains Presbyterian Church, where her father served as pastor during the Depression, she was an ordained Elder, edited the newsletter for decades, served on numerous committees, and sang in the choir. In addition, she was a past member and President of the Westchester Choral Society, was a 4-H leader, and volunteered with the PTA, YMCA, and other charitable organizations. She was a lifeguard and integral part of the swimming program at Candlewood Isle, CT, where her family had a summer home. Music was an important part of her life, as a trumpeter and choral singer. She is survived by her husband John, of over 64 years, a son Thomas (Debbie) of Penfield, NY, a daughter Ann of Yorktown Heights, NY, two grandchildren, Bobbi Timmons and Dr. Randi (John) Bongers, her long-time close friend, Phyllis Worthington, and her two beloved cats and Welsh Corgi. She was predeceased by her parents, Annie Watkins and Rev. Thomas F. Watkins, DD, her sisters Eileen Watkins, Arvonia Tanner, and brother Thomas F. Watkins II. Tweet's sense of humor, compassion, intelligence, courage, love of all creatures great and small, and her ability to touch the hearts of all who knew her will long be remembered.
