Marie C. Bahnmuller of Purchase died January 22. Born in New York City she was the daughter of the late George and Catherine Bahnmuller. Marie was a graduate of Cornell and Columbia Universities and had a long career as a history teacher and chairperson of the Social Studies Department at New Rochelle High School. A member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, White Plains, for over 60 years, she served on the Congregational Council for many years, and in 1980 was elected the first woman to serve as President of the Council. She was the first chairperson of the Shepherding Committee, a member of Lutheran Church Women, and author of the congregation's 393 page 100th Anniversary history, One Hundred Years in Word and Sacrament. Marie loved the outdoors and especially the ocean where she spent many summers at her Montauk Point home. She also loved animals and found joy and companionship with the dogs she shared her home with as family over many years. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home from 7-9pm. Graveside service Thursday 11:30am at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hastings on Hudson, NY.
