Maria Mossa of Bedford, New York passed away on September 15, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on March 26, 1917 to Giacomo and Cesarea Simone in Sannicandro di Bari, Italy. Maria was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She emigrated from Italy to Canada with her husband and daughter in 1951 and then to the United States in 1960. While in the United States, Maria was a life-long New Yorker, first living in Manhattan, then the Bronx and Pleasantville, and lastly Bedford. At different times, she owned and operated several businesses with her husband, daughter and son-in-law, including a butcher shop in Toronto and an Italian grocery in the Bronx. Maria's greatest passions in life were cooking, sewing/dressmaking/crocheting/knitting, attending church, and doting over her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Maria is survived by her loving husband Vito, who will celebrate his 100th birthday next month, and her daughter Rose Racanelli, both of Bedford, New York. She is also survived by her four grandsons, Alex of Danbury, Connecticut, Vito of New Fairfield, Connecticut, John of Manhattan, New York, and Martin of Monroe, New York, her two granddaughters-in-law, Mary and Andrea, her two great granddaughters, Katherine and Madeline, and numerous nieces and nephews.
