Maria De Los Angeles Feliciano was born on August 14, 1943 to the late Plutarco Feliciano and Judith Vega. She was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. She was the eldest of four children.
Maria moved to New York, where she completed her education. Maria was a full time homemaker who enjoyed cooking, cleaning, laughing, raising her children and spending quality time with her grandchildren. But her passion was reading the Word of God, going to church, listening to Christian Music, doing personal work and testifying to others, including those incarcerated.
On October 29, 2011 Maria accomplished her goal of becoming a Chaplain. She was commissioned as a member of the United Chaplains Faith and Hope Inc. Receiving the chaplain badge was a milestone that brought her much joy. She loved to do God's will.
Maria was a devoted mother who taught her children first, to put God above all things and secondly, about the importance of family. She was very independent, punctual, honest, strong willed, yet a loving person who enjoyed smothering her family with hugs and kisses.
Maria was preceded in death by: her parents, brother Anthony Feliciano Sr. and son William Martinez.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories her seven children: Sandra Martinez, Lorraine Martinez-Ramirez, Michelle Martinez, Yvette Mercado, Raymond Mercado, Anibal Mercado and Wilfredo Cordero; her thirteen grandchildren: Lawrice Crawford, Eliza E. Amador, Jessica Martinez, Arielle A. Ortiz, Heather Y. Mercado, Mariah S. Mercado, Samantha E. Mercado, Celine M. Mercado, Kate L. Mercado, Julian T. Cordero, Gabriella E. Mercado and Justin R. Mercado; two great grandchildren: Felix Esquilin and Zahrya Esquilin; two sisters Sonia Cuevas and Julie Feliciano, her nieces Yolanda Feliciano, Sylvia Cuevas and Tanya Feliciano; her nephews Jason Cuevas and Anthony Feliciano Jr.; one uncle: Wilfredo Vega; one cousin: Idalis Vega; her daughter-in-law: Lisa Salgado-Mercado; son in laws: Scott Mercado and Edward Ramirez; sister-in-law Evelyn Feliciano; special life long friends: Marta Santiago, Irma and Gladys De Leon: as well as a host of friends and Brothers and Sisters in Christ.
Maria was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, on April 18, 2015. To all those who knew and loved her, she will be remembered as a fighter who maintained her faith in God and praised his name until the very end.
