Maria Angello Zambelli

Maria Angello Zambelli of East Brunswick, NJ passed away on April 8, 2017 at age 94. She was born on August 20, 1922 to Anthony and Rose Angello of Mt Vernon, NY and following her marriage of 47 years to the late Andrew E. Zambelli, lived in Pelham and Mt. Vernon, NY for a total of 26 years. She attended local schools and graduated from the College of New Rochelle and Columbia University. Maria was employed by the Mt. Vernon Board of Education for over twenty years before her retirement in 1979 when both she and her husband moved to Palm Harbor, Florida. Maria was a member of the Women’s Golf League in Highland Lakes, Fl., became secretary of the scholarship program at the Italian American Club of Clearwater, and was the first president of the Highland Lakes Bocce Club that her husband, Andrew, initiated. She was a co-editor of the Highlander Newspaper, a member of the Alumnae Association of the College of New Rochelle, and the New York State Retired Teachers Association. Maria is survived by three children, Rachele (Charles) Macli of Hawthorne, NY, Andrea (Charles) DeNapoli of Monroe, NJ and Peter (Linda) Zambelli of Hilton Head, SC; six grandchildren David (Stephanie) Macli and Michael (Melissa) Macli, Jennifer (Nicholas Prisco) DeNapoli and Andrew (Maggie Hancock) DeNapoli, Matthew Zambelli and Kristina (Matthew) Loftus; and three great-grandchildren Maxwell Macli, Giovanni DeNapoli, and Calvin Macli. She is also survived by a sister, Gloria Gallagher of Albany, NY. Besides her husband and parents, Maria was predeceased by her sister, Josephine Angello. Visitation will be from 9:00A-11:00A on Wednesday, April 12th at Hawthorne Funeral Home and a Requiem Mass will follow at 11:30A at Holy Rosary Church in Hawthorne. Maria will be buried at Bushnell National Cemetery, Florida where her husband is already interred.
