On Saturday, February 13, 2021, Margaret Dolly Sircar, loving mother of three and a dear grandmother of four, took her last breath and passed away at the age of 83. Margaret was born on February 25, 1937 in Saharanpur, India to Merril Mathew and Edline Gill. On September 5, 1958, she married Profullo Kumar (PK) Sircar. Together they raised two daughters, Karuna and Kiran and a son, Rajiv. She graduated college to aspire a career in the medical field and later became homemaker.
Margaret had a passion for creativity and enjoyed knitting, sewing, cleaning, and cooking. She loved to organize her home and herself and was known for her impeccable ability to remember the birthdays and anniversaries of all those dear to her. Her hospitality was greatly admired not only by friends and family, but also by all who frequented their home. Margaret was also an avid and devout Christian who was committed to her service in the Church and community. She was known for her warming presence, an infectious smile, and her kind and compassionate spirit.
Obviously Margaret did not win the war against death; none of us will. But she won the war against needless suffering. Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 - "And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ."
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, PK, and eldest daughter, Karuna. She is survived by her second daughter, Kiran, her eldest granddaughter, Natasha, and son and daughter-in-law, Rajiv and Priya, their two children, Shifali and Rohan, and Karuna's daughter, Kajal.
A viewing and funeral service will be held on Friday, February 26, 2021 at the Ballard Durand-McElroy Chapel in Elmsford, NY at 10 am, directly followed by a burial at Oakland Cemetery in Yonkers, NY. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a link for the virtual live stream of the viewing and funeral service will be available shortly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Arcola United Methodist Church, of which Margaret was a member: https://arcolaumc.org/donate
