Died peacefully of cancer, under the loving care of her family, on July 31, 2012. She is predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Umberto A. Mancinelli, by her son Peter James Mancinelli, grandchildren Andrea Mancinelli and Robert Chen, her sisters Mildred Nicks, Florence Hiltebeitel, Nina McCracken and Ruth McGready. She is survived by her daughter Diane Mancinelli Chen and son-in- law Michael, son Thomas B. Mancinelli ,and daughter-in-law Linda Sue Mancinelli, grandchildren Lauren Amodei and husband Pasquale, Peter A. Mancinelli and wife Michelle, Lorien Chen Moretti and husband Robert, and David C. Chen, great-grandchildren Ryan and Brooke Amodei, Madison, James, and Morgan Mancinelli. Born in Sellersville, PA on February 5, 1921 to Fred and Nellie Burgess, she was the youngest of five daughters. A graduate of Souderton (PA) High School and of Grandview Hospital Nursing School, she joined the United States Army Nurse Corp in June 1943 and proudly served her country during WWII. She crossed the Atlantic on the Queen Mary carrying troops to Europe, and was stationed in Iceland to care for injured troops. After being discharged from the Army she settled in New York, married and raised her family. She continued her nursing career at White Plains Hospital where, for 35 years, she worked in the newborn nursery, lovingly welcoming many children into the world. Throughout her life she had a great passion for poetry, literature and writing and at the age of 86 became a published author in Forever Spoken a volume of poetry by the International Library of Poetry. She was a gentle soul with a kind and loving heart, who always saw the good in people. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends.
