Madeline Garvey passed away surrounded by her family on Christmas Eve. She was 73. She is survived by her devoted husband Earl; her loving and caring children Marie Seale Ryan; Patricia Milliot and husband Tom; Edward Seale and wife Cathy; and Marianne Garvey and husband Kevin Barry; and her cherished grandchildren Megan Ryan, Kenneth Ryan IV, Laura Milliot Grazioli, Kaitlin Milliot, Amanda Seale and Catherine Seale. She is also survived by her best friend and sister Nora Cipolla, her brothers Patrick O'Brien and Thomas O'Brien, and her beloved dog Mosey. Bronx-born and raised, Madeline was the daughter of Irish immigrants Patrick and Mary (McGovern) O'Brien, and grew up a Yankees fan in Sacred Heart parish in Highbridge. She lived a great life and loved fun things, including panda bears, stand-up comedy and independent films. Above all, she adored and treasured her family. Her spirit, generosity and love of family and friends will always be remembered. Madeline was a sweet, sassy lady — a big presence, tough and smart with a soft inside, a huge heart and a compassionate spirit. She spent 25 years as a correction officer with the Westchester County Department of Corrections before retiring in 2002. She had previously worked for A&P for a decade. A wake was set for 5-9 p.m. Friday night at the Hawthorne Funeral Home, 21 West Stevens Ave. in Hawthorne. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday 10 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Church, 170 Bradhurst Ave., Hawthorne.
