Leocadia (Lucy) Theresa Suszczynski, of Co-Op City/ Bronx, New York, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the age of 88. Lucy was born December 31, 1924 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to Nicholas and Catherine Gladkowski. On September 21, 1946 she married Stanley Joseph Suszczynski. Lucy retired from Prentice Hall at Viacom where she was a Secretary in the legal document department. She was very proud of her Polish heritage and known for her love of dancing the Polka and listening to polish music. She loved to travel and frequently visited family, friends, Poland and Atlantic City. She was a devote Roman Catholic and loved to sing in the choir. She was a member of St. Adalbert's Church and transferred her membership to St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church after moving to Co-Op City. Lucy also sent packages with clothes, shoes, medication and funds frequently to Poland to help her Aunts, Uncles and cousins. Lucy is preceded in death by her parents Nicholas and Catherine Gladkowski, sisters Mary and Genève, brothers Walter and Mathew, husband Stanley and daughter Catherine (Kasia).
She is survived by her son Joseph Stanley Suszczynski of Mico, TX, her two granddaughters Rose Marie Manchester of Longmont, CO and Tina Catherine Williams of San Antonio, TX; her four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Tyler, Alex and Emily and long time loving friend Henry Niewiarowski. Lucy will be laid to rest at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York. A service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 23, 2013 in, Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel located at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Father Walter Niebrzydowski will officiate. The burial will follow directly after the service.
