Lucille Tortora, of Pompano Beach, Florida, formerly of Valhalla, New York, passed away peacefully at her home on April 24, 2021. She was 91 years old.
She was born in Bronx, New York on January 28, 1930 to Eugene and Mary (Pesiri) Mele. She graduated Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1947 and went to work at Devoe & Reynolds where she met Charles A. Tortora of Brooklyn, New York, the love of her life. They were married on July 2, 1949.
They moved from the Bronx to Valhalla, New York in 1958 and lived there until they retired to Pompano Beach, Florida in 1982. She was predeceased by her husband in 1992. Lucille worked for Nationwide Insurance and Savin Business Machines and she and her husband were Charter Members of the Valhalla Ambulance Corp. She is survived by her three children, Charlene Fragala and her husband Leonard of White Plains, Dennis J. Tortora and his wife Sally of Thornwood, and Michele Camp and her husband Robert of White Plains, four grandchildren, Kristin Muscarella, Suzanne Mullaney, Thomas Tortora and Lindsay DiCarlo, and nine great grandchildren Frank, Sophia and Charles Muscarella, Lucas and Andrew Mullaney, Domino and Donald DiCarlo and Emma and Kayla Tortora. She is also survived by her only brother Eugene Mele and his wife Winnie, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A wake will be held at the Hawthorne Funeral Home in Hawthorne, New York on Monday, May 3. The viewing will be from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00P.M. The funeral services will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Valhalla, New York on Tuesday, May 4 at 10 A.M., followed by the burial service at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in White Plains, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband. Her entire family is so grateful for the 91 years we had her.
