Louis Reichenbach, a retired autobody shop manager, died peacefully in his sleep Monday, November 20, 2006. He was 86 years old.
He was born April 22, 1920, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Louis and June Reichenbach. Mr. Reichenbach attended Philadelphia public schools, graduating from Simon Gratz High School. He enlisted and served honorably in the United States Army, serving with both the engineers and Air Corp., from 1942 through 1946, attaining the rank of sergeant.
He worked as an autobody shop manager, with both his father and his own business, subsequently working locally for many years at Smith Cairns Ford in Bronxville, New York.
On June 30, 1946, he married Rose Mary Francescini, RN, the love of his life, in White Plains, New York.
Mr. Reichenbach was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
He and his wife were longstanding active members of the First Baptist Church of White Plains, New York, where both he and his wife taught Sunday school and were members of the choir. He held numerous positions and offices within the church.
He enjoyed morning walks, platform tennis, fishing, swimming, tennis, attending the Metropolitan Opera, big band music, following sports, and being a loving and involved father with both his sons' Little League Baseball teams. He enjoyed the company of family pets, especially Schatzi. He was also a caring and helpful neighbor. He was a great kidder and storyteller. He loved telling others about his experiences growing up in downtown Philadelphia, spending time on family farms in Pennsylvania and Illinois, and his experiences during World War II.
Besides his two sons Eric Paul (Judith) Reichenbach and Kurt Louis (Renee) Reichenbach, he is survived by his sister Dorothy Lauer of New Jersey, and his brother William Reichenbach of Pennsylvania. He had four granddaughters whom he enjoyed: Dana and Kristen Reichenbach, and Rachel and Christy Lattarulo.
