Louis J. Cardinale

Louis J. Cardinale of Hawthorne, NY, also known to many as “Big Lou”, passed away on December 27 ^th , 2021, at the age of 92. Louis was born on January 18 ^th , 1929, to Raymond and Margaret (Calandro) Cardinale in Eastchester, NY. Lou was a graduate of Scarsdale High School where he met his wife of 70 years, Elaine Short, who predeceased him in 2016. Louis worked for Local Union 137 for 45 years as an Operating Engineer, Hawthorne Fire Department member for 62 years, and a member of Mount Pleasant Senior Center. Louis was always generous to all that met him and especially enjoyed spending time with his family at the Jersey Shore. He was a true outdoors man & enjoyed spending time in Columbia County on the farm & at the cabin at Lake Piseco. Lou, as an avid Frank Sinatra fan, was very proud of his Italian heritage. He is survived by his loving children Susan Carter, Sheila(Ben) Dauria, Stephanie(Ron) Lukacs and Gerald(Janine) Cardinale. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Danelle, Russell, Kristen, Nicole, Daniel, Dean, and Brandon and great-grandchildren Nicholas and Jade. He is predeceased by his wife Elaine, daughter Diane Cardinale, & his brothers John (Joan) & Joseph Cardinale. Reposing, Hawthorne Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 30,2021 from 4-8 PM. Funeral Mass, Holy Rosary Church, Hawthorne, N.Y. on Friday, 10 AM. Internment private. In lieu of flowers donations to Hawthorne Fire Co. #1 25 Home Street Hawthorne, N.Y. 10532, would be appreciated.
