Lorna Freda Adler (nee Rosenthal), 83, of Valhalla passed away on July 28, 2013. Formerly a resident of Larchmont NY, she lived at Westchester Meadows for the last few years of her life. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Jack T. Adler, in 2009.
Lorna was born in Great Neck, NY on April 12, 1930. The majority of her life was spent in Larchmont, NY where she and Jack raised their children. She began working at the Larchmont Public Library in 1972 and eventually became the Director, retiring in 1996.
In addition to her love of books, Lorna had a passion for classical music. She and Jack were frequent concert-goers. They both volunteered their services at Tanglewood, near their vacation home in the Berkshires, where most summer evenings you could find them on the lawn listening to music.
Lorna is survived by her sons, Bruce (Miriam) of Weston, CT; Gary of Carmel, NY; David (Christine) of Somers, NY; 6 beloved grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother George Rosenthal (Arlene) of Oldsmar, FL and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was devoted to her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Services will be Wednesday, July 31 at 2pm at Hawthorne Funeral Home. The family will be receiving callers immediately after the service at her apartment at 55 Grasslands Road, Valhalla, NY, Apt C-332. A shiva minyan will be at 7:30pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions are welcome to Larchmont Manor Park Society, P.O. Box 2 Larchmont, NY 10538.
