Linda Arlene Hewitt-Thomas, devoted mom, beloved grandmother, caring sister, and proud aunt and great-aunt, who always had her loving daughters and grandchildren around her, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Montefiore Hospital, in the Bronx, New York.
Linda was born on November 29, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Vornie and Elsie Hewitt. She was the youngest of 9 siblings.
Linda received a heart transplant on December 19, 2019. After a short stay in a rehabilitation hospital for Physical therapy. Linda started to get back to her regular routine with the help of her Aide, Ms. Blessing. She was even able to enjoy one of her favorite things going to the casino again with her niece Yvette Hewitt.
Linda met the love of her life, her husband Herman Thomas, during her high school years, and they had two beautiful daughters, Delores (DeeDee) and Anitrah (Missy). Family gatherings and celebratory activities during the holidays were one of her many joys, as she would love to thoroughly decorate the house during the holidays. Linda also loved turtles and collected everything related to turtles.
While raising her kids, Linda pursued her love and passion for teaching when she attended The College of New Rochelle and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education. Immediately upon completing her studies, she began her career as a teacher at Isabell Child Care Center until her retirement. She was preceded by her husband, Herman Thomas; mother Elsie Hewitt; father, Vornie Hewitt; brothers, Howard Hewitt; Larry Hewitt; Charles (Buddy) Hewitt; Joseph Hewitt; and sisters, Marion Thornton; Carol Wilmot; and Julia Hewitt.
Linda is survived by her loving family; Daughters Delores Thomas and Anitrah Thomas, her five grandchildren Tatyana Lebron, Deijana Lebron, Aiyana Lebron, Juliana Lebron, and Jalend Milton, and her Grand Fur babies Max, Lillyana, Leo, Coco mocha, DJ, Coco, and Majin. She is also survived by her brother Elliot Hewitt who resides in the Bronx, New York, nieces, nephews, numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and a host of friends.
Above all, Linda dearly loved her family and her aide Blessing, who was an exceptional help to her and was family to her, as she spoke of her often. Her students, she adored and would call them her kids. Linda was a wonderful Mother and grandmother and will be missed dearly!
