Lillian A. Sarrero

Lillian A. Sarrero, 97, formerly of Hawthorne, NY, passed away on December 11, 2017 at her home in Miami, FL. She was born to Pasquale & Minnie (nee Fusaro) Sposato on December 5, 1920 in White Plains, NY.  She graduated from White Plains High School. Lillian worked at the Pentagon in Washington, DC during WWII.  After the war, she worked for the American Tobacco Company.  On September 22, 1946, she married Leonard I. Sarrero, who passed away in 2000.  She is survived by her 5 children, Patricia Kaufman (Lazarus) of Miami, FL; Joan Sarrero of Modesto, CA; Elaine Mair (Ken) of Juno Beach, FL; Lenny Sarrero of Briarcliff Manor, NY; and Joseph Sarrero (Susan) of Jacksonville, NC.  She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, TJ (Tara) Adams and Josh Adams; John Wilkey; Cathleen, Richie, and JR Sarrero; and Alan and Rob Mair, as well as 2 great-grandchildren, Kiera and Kate Adams.  She is predeceased by 3 brothers, Lawrence, Maurice (Kid Sharkey), and Virgil Sposato, and 1 sister, Matilda Magnotta. In addition to her devoted, excellent work as a full-time mother and talented home cook with a well-loved repertoire of classic Italian dishes, Lillian worked as an administrator at Guidance Associates, and later at Reader’s Digest in Pleasantville, NY, from which she retired in 1985. An avid sports fan, she loved her NY Yankees, NY Knicks, and the Golden State Warriors.  Her many hobbies included line-dancing at the senior center, reading, crocheting, and jigsaw puzzles. She lived her life to the fullest, enjoying her family, friends, dancing, and travels to Italy, France, California, New York, and North Carolina well into her 90s.  She was a light in all of our lives, and touched everyone who knew her. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Hawthorne Funeral Home, 21 W. Stevens Ave., on Friday, December 15th from 10-12, 2-5, and 7-9 PM.  The Mass of Christian burial will be held at Holy Rosary Church in Hawthorne on Saturday, December 16th at 10:00 AM.  Interment to follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
