Leo P. Cooley

Leo Patrick Cooley, age 77, of Valhalla, NY, died on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 surrounded by his family. The oldest son of the late Leo and Alice Cooley, Leo was born on July 20, 1938 in Flushing, NY. He left behind his wife, Kathryn Cooley, three children, Stephen Leo Cooley, Ellen Dierdre Cooley and Lawrence Sebastian Cooley, and a granddaughter Lisa Cooley. He is also survived by his brothers, Joseph, Phillip and John Cooley and his sister Mary Kubler. Leo graduated from St Augustine High School in Brooklyn, NY in 1956 and received a BA in English at Fordham University in 1960. He completed his PhD in English and Irish Literature at New York University in 1969. During his 45 years at Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY, he taught Modern British and Irish Literature as well as Creative Writing. He will be sadly missed and remembered for his loving and generous spirit, his gentle nature and his great sense of humor. Reposing at Hawthorne Funeral Home on Friday, 5 pm to 9 pm. A funeral mass at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Valhalla, NY will be celebrated on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 10 am. Interment, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y.
