We are deeply saddened by the passing of Lenore Grosso on February 26, 2024. Lenore was 74 years old and born on December 23, 1949. Born and raised in Pelham NY, Lenore graduated from Pelham Memorial High School and immediately went to work for AT&T. Lenore was well respected and proficient in computer operations. She was responsible for setting up the technology programming in satellite offices all over the country for AT&T as computers were just starting to be used in the industry. She later moved to Hawthorne NY. Following retirement, she worked for a number of years at ENT Allergy and Associates of White Plains, NY.
Aunt Lenore, "Nor", was a loving aunt, sister, daughter, and friend. She centered her entire life around her family, which meant everything to her. Her home was adorned with hundreds of photos in every room of every family member and friend whose life she touched. Whenever she entered a room, her huge presence was felt by her laughter and big personality. Lenore was one of a kind. She sectioned off rooms in her house for toys and legos that she would build with her "rugrats" as she called them. She had silly nicknames for each child in her family because she had a unique and special relationship with every one of them. She was known for her giant Easter baskets each year (a tradition passed down from Tillie) and her huge Santa sacks of toys that she would lug to all of her nieces and nephews at Christmastime. She spent months before holidays and birthdays overbuying toys and sweets and hand picking every special item to bring joy to each child in her life. Her gifts were as big as her spirit. She gave with everything she had. Anyone who knew Lenore loved her. She will be remembered for her frankness, giant heart, infectious laugh, kindness, generosity, playfulness, loyalty, and wonderful conversations. She was the glue that kept this family close, leaving a legacy of family bonding, the old-fashioned kind that will be cherished and remembered forever.
Lenore was predeceased by her mother Lucy Grosso who passed away when Lenore was 5 years old, her grandmother, by the same name Lucy Grosso and Pasquale Grosso, her father Francis Grosso, step-mother Attilia Grosso, and step-sister Anne Sirota.
She leaves behind beloved brothers Patrick Grosso and wife Marie E. of White Plains, Francis Grosso and wife Marie D. of Hawthorne, and brother-in-law Sidney Sirota of Winchester, VA. Loving aunt to Patrick and Elissa Grosso, Carol and Bruce Flax, Carolyn and John Kennedy, Gail Sirota and Leslie Stenull, Jason and Francesca Grosso and Toni Marie Marano. She is the devoted great-aunt of Josh and Daniel Flax, Adriana Grosso, Joseph Grosso, Lucy Marano, Jade Kennedy, Luke Grosso and Charlie Marano.
Arrangements will be at Ballard-Durand Funeral & Cremation Services of Hawthorne at 21 West Stevens Ave, Hawthorne, NY 10532 on Monday March 4th from 4:00-8:00pm.
Lenore was strong. She fought tirelessly for years with illness. Though dealing with many years of physical pain, she never complained, and only valued every nurse, doctor family member, friend and aide who cared for her. The family wants to give a special thanks to Dr. Paul Hamlin who went above and beyond in the care for Lenore. Donations to Sloan-Kettering would be greatly appreciated. Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (PO Box 27106, New York, NY 10087-7106) or St. Jude Hospital.
