Laura Zahra

Laura Zahra, of Hawthorne, NY passed away peacefully on September 16, 2017 at the age of 81 years old. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Dr. Susan Zahra Guiney, of Thornwood, N.Y. and her loving son, Louis (Amy) of Warrensburg, N.Y.. She loved spending time with her dear grandchildren, Daniel, James, and Lauren Guiney who brought her incredible joy and love. Laura also is survived by many nieces and nephews who remained close to her.  Laura married Joe, the love of her life, who predeceased her in 2013. Together, they created a loving family, renovated many homes, were terrific dancers, and were loved by all who met them.  Laura was born in NYC, daughter of the late Philip and Theresa Guarino and youngest sibling to the late Rose, Joseph, and John. She graduated from Julia Richman High School and worked as a top notch stenographer and secretary over the years. In 2002, she retired from her position in the library at Westchester Community College. Most importantly, she was a devout wife and mother who cared deeply for her children and family.  Laura was a past parishioner of St. Lucy's Church (Bronx) and St. Mary Mother of the Church (Fishkill). Reposing, Hawthorne Funeral Home on Tuesday, 4-8 pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Rosary Church in Hawthorne, NY on Wednesday, 10:30 AM. Interment Private In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Laura's name to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital would be appreciated
