A gift into this life, Larry Jones transitioned on Monday, May 26, 2014, to begin another journey towards fulfillment.
Born on July 10, 1950, Larry was the son of the late Ms. Ruth Jones. Although he spent his early years in Pelzer, South Carolina, he grew up in New York City. After graduating from DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx, Larry went on to receive both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Yale University. After spending time working as a counselor at SUNY Purchase College, he entered the field of Finance. In 1990 while attending the National Black MBA conference in Chicago, he met his future spouse, Mary McElrath.
Larry held many positions in the areas of banking and finance at Swiss Bank, Traveler's Insurance and lastly, Citigroup. He enjoyed his work and community service, spending many years as a member of the Board of Directors of the 52nd Street Project.
Larry practiced Buddhism as a disciple of His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche.
Larry was a proud father and adored his two children. He was proud of his first born son, Khalil Lawrence Jones, who attends Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey. His heart belonged to his delicate lotus bloom, his daughter, Surya Nicole Jones, a national honor student at New Rochelle High School.
His mother, Ruth Jones, preceded him on the transitional journey in 2005. His necklace of songs, to cherish his memory, include a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, Citigroup colleagues and friends.
