Kenneth Lloyd Nelson was born October 10, 1948 in St. Mary, the island of Jamaica to Alexander and Beatrice Nelson. Kenneth, known to his family as "Sonny" migrated to the US in 1982 and resided in White Plains. Before migrating to the states, he married his childhood sweetheart, Edna McPherson and had five children (Verona, Sonja, Sheryl, Karen, and Jermaine). Interestingly, Sonny met his wife through her brother, his childhood friend and who would think Sonny's childhood friend would also end up marrying Sonny's sister. This is just one of many testaments of the close knit family Sonny not only surrounded himself with, but helped to cultivate. Loved by so many, he had several other nicknames: Pecker, Kenny, Indian, Coolie-Man, and Son-Son. Anyone who knew Sonny would agree he was always jovial, comical, never in a bad mood. Even if he was having an off day, you would never know, as he would make sure to put a smile on your face. Sonny was all about making others laugh and often at his own expense. He was known for his "Jack of all trade" title, as there was no household job, small or big that Sonny could not fix. Sonny had many passions, but none could compare to his love for a game of Dominoes. Often tried to be outdone by his siblings, who he taught and eventually became the master students, but no matter their efforts, Sonny could not be defeated. He was the master at this game and would earn him spots in tournaments, which would lead him to travel to places like Canada and Florida to showcase his talent. Sonny was born into a very large family. As one of 11 children, he was the 2nd oldest of 7 boys and 4 girls. He is survived by his mother Beatrice; wife Edna; son Jermaine; daughters Verona, Sonja and Sheryl; grandchildren Natasha, Jarrod, Shiloh, Shaynia, Jordan, Rhaquon, Rhaymani and baby Victoria; brothers Raymond, Winston and Harry; sisters Hermin, Vera and Verona; as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends. Sonny had a heart of gold and would give you his last dollar and worry about himself later. That was the kind of person our "Pecker" was. He has touched us all and will always be remembered and cherished in our hearts and memories.
We are comforted to know that he is with Karen, the daughter he knew for only 3 short years.
We will miss you dearly!
