Kathleen Teresa Modica

Kathleen Teresa Modica passed away on April 25, 2021. She was born on March 3, 1934 and raised in Sunnyside, Queens. At the age of 18, she entered the convent of the Dominican Sisters and served as a teacher.

In 1965, her path would shift when she met Frank Modica, a young Marianist priest. Their friendship grew and in 1970, they made the difficult decision to leave  religious life and were married. In 1972 they welcomed into the world their son, Sean.

Kathleen continued as an educator, teaching for over 20 years at Holy Name of Jesus School in Valhalla, NY. Kathleen was a kind and gentle woman with a wonderful Irish sense of humor. She was devoted to her family, friends, son, her daughter in law, Aimée, and her grandson, Aidan, who brought her so much joy.  Kathleen loved her husband Frank unconditionally. We take comfort in knowing that they are once again reunited.

A socially-distanced wake, open to 10 masked visitors at a time, will be at the Hawthorne Funeral Home in Hawthorne, NY, on April 28th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Interment will be at The Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY, on April 29th at 11am. A memorial celebration for Kathleen will be held on a later date.
