Katherine Rizoulis passed away on August 29, 2015, in New York. She joins her deceased and loving husband Menelaos (Manny). Katherine was blessed with a loving family: her daughters Joanna and Anne along with their husbands Seth and Ferdinand; wonderful grand-children, Griffen, Sophia, Eve and Katherine; and her devoted siblings Peter and Mary Ann, in addition to her brother in law Edmund.
Katherine grew up in Springfield, MA. She proudly attended Mount Holyoke College and earned her master’s degree in education from Columbia University. Katherine also pursued doctorate studies at Columbia and was committed to continuous education and cultural enrichment thru out her life. As a young woman she pursued work in France to expand her horizons. Katherine met her husband Manny at a social event in college, and they renewed their friendship and ultimately love when she returned from working abroad. They were happily married for nearly 50 years and raised their family in New York.
Those who met Katherine knew her as stylish, a gracious hostess, devoted family woman and sharp wit. She was dedicated to her Greek immigrant parents John and Irene. She had a close bond with her siblings Peter and Mary Ann, and as she grew older came to rely on their selfless friendship, love and support. As a mother, Katherine lovingly encouraged her daughters to be educated, independent and confident individuals. She was a proud grandmother and source of encouragement to her elder grandchildren Sophia and Griffen.
Katherine will be missed by many and leaves a beautiful lasting legacy of devotion to family and friends. Visitation Thursday 9/3 4pm-7pm Ballard-Durand in White Plains, NY. Funeral services Friday 9/4 10am Church of Our Saviour in Rye, NY.
