Karen M. Greene

Karen M. Greene of Naugatuck, wife of Robert L. Greene, died Thursday at the Vitas Hospice in St. Mary's Hospital, in Waterbury, CT. Mrs. Greene was born in New York December 4, 1947 daughter of John Russell Haywood and Mary Ida Benson Haywood. She graduated from high school in Valhalla, NY, earned a BS from Cornell University, class of 1969, and an MBA from Pace University. Mrs. Greene was a main frame programmer and systems analyst for IBM for over 30 years. Later she was employed at Wesson Energy Inc. in Waterbury. Mrs. Greene was a long-time member of Riverbank Christian Worship Center in Waterbury, where she served as a deacon for several years. She was a volunteer at Acts 4 Ministry and became a member of the board of directors when the ministry incorporated. Mrs. Greene was gifted in arts and crafts and generous in making gifts for family and friends. She was a member and coordinator of Common Thread which makes quilts for people who are undergoing physical or spiritual hardships. Besides her husband, she is survived by three sisters, Margaret Conners of Bonita Springs, FL, Eleanor Devine of Las Vegas, NV and Janice Haywood of Valhalla, NY. She leaves many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm at the Hawthorne Funeral Home, Hawthorne, NY. A graveside service will be Wednesday at 10:00 AM at Kensico cemetery in Valhalla. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 30 at noon at Riverbank Christian Worship Center, located behind Home Depot at 649 Bank St. In lieu of flowers please send contributions to Riverbank Christian Center, PO Box 7080, Prospect, CT 06712.
