June A. Delvalle of White Plains, NY died Friday, May 29, 2015 at home after a five week courageous battle with AML. She was 88 years old. She was born June 3, 1926 in New York City. She was the daughter of the late Maurice and Beatrice (Fox) Ackerman. June graduated from New York University in 1947 with a B.S. in Occupational Therapy. She was a New York State Registered Occupational Therapist, license number 00017, a pioneer in the field.
June began her career in 1947 at Mt. Sinai Hospital. She held positions at Blythedale Children's Hospital, The Nathan Miller Center for Nursing Care and then from 1966-1982 at United Hospital as Chief Occupational Therapist in Psychiatry and Physical Medicine. After her retirement, she was a dedicated volunteer at White Plains Hospital Center with more than 5,000 hours of service in administration, accounts payable and the Knit-Wits.
June had professional memberships with the American Occupational Therapy Association (68 years), New York State Occupational Therapy Association, Metropolitan New York District of the New York State Occupational Therapy Association, Westchester District of the New York State Occupational Therapy Association and World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
June was selected to appear in "Who's Who of American Women", "Who's Who In The East", "International Who's Who in Community Service" and "Community Leaders and Noteworthy Americans" from 1977-1980.
She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Hugh M. Delvalle. She is survived by her son Bruce and daughter, Margot (George) Delvalle-Pierro, grandchildren Dana Karakowski, Kate Pierro and Jacquelyn Pierro. She was preceded in death by her brother Dr. Jerome Ackerman and son Kenneth Delvalle and his family.
Visitation will take place at the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Avenue at South Broadway, White Plains, NY, on Wednesday, June 3rd from 2:00-4:00PM & 7:00-9:00PM with a funeral service the following day at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice or White Plains Hospital.
