Julie A. Wright, 87 of Valhalla passed away at The Grove at Valhalla Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Saturday, February 3, 2024.
Julie was born on February 14, 1936, in New York City, NY to Thomas and Mary Lawson. Julie attended Tarrytown public schools where she met her high school sweetheart James Wright. Julie attended Barnard College and graduated in 1958 with a degree in education while her high school sweetheart served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Julie and James were married at The Second Reform Church in Tarrytown, NY on July 5, 1958, and then relocated to Valhalla, NY where they raised their four children.
Julie continued her education at the Western Connecticut University where she received her Master's Degree in Education. She went on to become a cherished teacher at the Ridgeway Nursery School & Kindergarten in White Plains and eventually the Director of the school until she retired.
Julie was deeply committed to her faith and community. Julie was a long-time member of the Valhalla United Methodist Church and was a 50-year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.
Survived by her husband and love of her life for 72 years James Wright, children: David Wright (Marilee), Elizabeth Martins (John), Nancy Mclynn (Kevin), and Susan Marvin (Erik), and her brother Edward Lawson. She also leaves behind her 12 grandchildren: Jesse, Danielle, Brian, Amanda, Jennifer, Michael, Kaitlin, Mary, James McLynn who predeceased her, Juliana, Jack, Samantha, and 1 great-grandchild: Jaxon.
Julie Wright will be remembered for her unwavering love, her infectious laughter, and her generous spirit. She enjoyed playing Bridge and having gourmet parties with friends. Julie enjoyed her summers on Cape Cod working on crossword puzzles, doing arts & crafts with her grandchildren, and sunset swims in the pond.
Her family would like to express their gratitude to all the staff at The Grove.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 17th at 11:00 AM at the Valhalla United Methodist Church, Valhalla, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to make a donation to a charity of your choosing.
