Julia S, of White Plains passed peacefully at home on July 6, 2012, after a prolonged battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Julie was born Feb 7, 1926, in Denver, CO. Through her professional, volunteer, and philanthropic activities, Julie dedicated her life to the social welfare of others. Early in her professional career, Julie worked as a psychiatric social worker for Charity Association of San Antonio University of Texas Medical (Galveston), Dallas Community Guidance, NY State Association for Crippled Children (NYC), and Abbot House (Irvington). She attended University of Texas-Austin, Columbia University (MSW), and Westchester Center for Study of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. Julie was the administrator and therapist at White Plains Hospital Department of Psychiatry until her retirement in 1992. She continued in private practice specializing in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. She was a Fellow of the Westchester Center Psychoanalysis Society (pres. Elect), Group Psychotherapy Association, Orthopsychiatric Association, and National Association of Social Workers. A long-time resident of Irvington, NY, Julie was an active member of the PTA and the League of Women Voters. Julie is predeceased by her husband Lester L. Joffe. She is survived by her children Barbara, Lee, Paul, and Elyzabeth (Smiles) and 6 grandchildren, all of whom will miss her grace, elegance, and sense of fun.
