Joyce Marie Holloway-Gilbert was born in Mobile, Alabama on January 13, 1958, she passed away on Tuesday, August 29th, 2023, at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, NY. She was the second daughter of Will and Ruthie Holloway and remained loyal to her family. Joyce spent her formative years on Lake Street in White Plains, NY. She remained rooted in New York throughout her life in White Plains, and relocated to Yonkers and finally settling in Ossining, NY.
Joyce received her associate degree in business and shortly thereafter, began her career at Hudson Valley DDSO as a Direct Service Professional (Developmental Aide), supporting adults with mental disabilities where she took great pride in taking care of others as shown throughout her work and nurturing her family. She retired after 30 years of service.
Joyce's passion was in gardening, traveling and spending quality time with her family and loved ones. It was important to Joyce for her home to be a place of comfort, where anyone could come sit, talk, laugh and experience love amongst the flowers in her garden. She was resilient, hard-working and family oriented.
Joyce is preceded in death by her father, Will and a brother, Michael Holloway. She is survived by her husband of twenty-eight (28) years, Norman Gilbert, her daughters Taniesha and Akiera, grandchildren: Judah and Sojourner, her son-in-law, Omar (Kevin); her mother Ruthie Holloway, her siblings Priscilla (Anita), Sheila, Cheryl, Paul, Bryant, sibling-in-laws, Curtis, Lori, Ozella and a host of nieces and nephews, her godmother, Rosie Holloway, a godson Curtis P and her loving pet, Frankie.
Most knew Joyce had a strong personality and she was not easily won over; however, her tough exterior guided her determination and fierce protection for those she cared about. She was incredibly sensitive, private and compassionate. She was also creative, resourceful and determined to accomplish goals she set her mind to. Whenever Joyce was needed, she showed up.
