Joyce Cerniello

Joyce Conard Cerniello, of Oak Brook, IL formally of Scarsdale and White Plains, NY, at rest Feb. 9th, Downers Grove, IL. Ms. Cerniello was born to Arnold and Ethel Conard in New York City on July 23, 1924 and married Michael Cerniello on Oct. 8, 1945. A Registered Nurse, she was a graduate of the White Plains Hospital School of Nursing, and received a Bachelor's Degree from St. John's University and a Masters Degree in Psychiatric Nursing from New York University. She began her career at White Plains Hospital, and also worked at St. Agnes Hospital in White Plains. After serving as a public health nurse in Eastchester and then a school nurse in Greenburgh, she joined the Veterans Administration, holding a number of positions at the VA in Montrose, NY and also hospitals in Pennsylvania until her retirement in 1984 when she returned to her long time residence at 1 Franklin Avenue, White Plains. Joyce enjoyed traveling, often spending vacations abroad, and was an avid collector of dolls and highly detailed dollhouse furnishings. She is survived by her four children, Michael Cerniello of Norwalk, CT, Joyci (Alan) Feldman and Jill Cerniello of OPak Brook, IL, and Joan Atkinson of Stonington, CT; four grandchildren: Tara (Ian) Alamilla, Dustin (Reenie) Feldman, Dr. Kori Feldman (Patrick) Spizzo, and Michael Feldman; three great grandchildren: Travis, Leo, and Maya Alamilla; and a sister: Ethel Conard of Scarsdale, NY. Reposing Monday, February 15th from 7-9pm at the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Avenue at South Broadway, White Plains. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 16th at 10:00AM at Sacred Heart Church, Hartsdale. Interment will be in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne.
