Joy R. Borgos (nee Rosenberg) passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, at the age of 103 at her home in White Plains. Joy lived an active and productive life. Born on New Year's Eve 1921 in the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn, she graduated from Brooklyn College and taught in the New York City public school system. In 1952 she moved with her family to White Plains, where she had a long career with a fair housing organization, Westchester Residential Opportunities, eventually rising to the position of Executive Director. While in her eighties, she managed a summer youth jobs program for Westchester County.
Joy is survived by three children and their spouses, Michael and Michelle, Seth and Gwen, Jennifer and Scott, and by seven grandchildren, six great-children and Blossom, her beloved caregiver of 10 years. She is pre-deceased by husbands Paul Fox, who died in combat in World War II, and Edwin Borgos, with whom she shared a loving 49-year marriage.
Joy will be remembered by friends and family alike for her positive outlook on life and unwavering qualities of kindness, justice, and compassion, embodying the Jewish values that she held dear.
A memorial service for Joy will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, January 7, at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Avenue, White Plains NY.
