Josephine G. Alifi, of White Plains, NY, passed away on November 13, 2016. She was 96 years old. Born in Brooklyn, NY, to Gaspare and Teresa Sabatino, she was one of eleven siblings. She lived in East Harlem, NY for the first 21 years of her life, helping her parents care for her younger siblings. She took fashion design classes at Parsons School of Design in NYC and was a self-taught seamstress who mastered tailoring and knitting and owned two wedding dress shops in NYC and a knitting shop in the Bronx.
Josephine married Angelo Alifi in 1941 and they had twin daughters, Theresa and Camille. She was a loving homemaker, passionate story teller, and a devoted grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, singing Italian music and spending time with her family. She loved animals, especially dogs.
Josephine will lovingly be remembered by her four grandchildren; John (Maria) Protano, Camille Protano, Charlie (Christa) Protano, and James Protano, and four great grandchildren; Johnny, Robert, Christopher and Viviana Protano. She was preceded in death by her twin daughters, husband of 60 years, and 10 siblings.
A mass service will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 92 S Lexington Ave, White Plains, NY 10606 on Wednesday November 16th at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s hospital.
