In Loving Memory of Joseph E. Terry III
March 16, 1988 – September 3, 2015
Joseph, lovingly known to most as Jo-Jo’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by and interacted with him, would agree that the quality of one’s existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. His gentle smile could melt the hearts of those around him, his kindness touched many and his intelligence and wisdom, was always compared to those much older.
Jo-Jo had a love for soulful music and movies. You would often find him singing out loud with headphones, or reciting lines from some of his favorite movies. Jo-Jo, like most of us, learned to overcome incredible obstacles where he showed courage and the ability to believe that each day is a blessing, especially after the loss of his father at such a young age. Jo-Jo mostly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and creating lasting memories. He looked forward to seeing the family together for holidays. Being with family meant more to him than anything and he would always take time to visit everyone.
Joseph leaves behind to cherish his loving memory his mother, Lorna Terry Franklin, Stepfather, Isaac Davis; five sisters, Theresa (Chris), Christina (Anthony), Alicia, Rebecca, Isabella and one brother, Joshua; two nephews, Jeremiah and Anthony; two nieces, Jordyn and Jada; maternal grandmother, Lona Patton; aunts Elizabeth King, Theresa Terry, Lynnette King (William); uncles Len Patton (Shareefah), William Slade, Nathaniel Terry and Robert Terry (Lynette); great aunts Laurie Garrett, Wendy White; great uncles, George Garrett, James White and Duane Lyons; several cousins: Jason, Bryan, Steven, Devon, Jaden, Elizabeth, Janiece, Nathaniel Jr., Elijah, Darien, Brandon, Earl, Gabrielle, Rachel, Ezekiel, Emmanuel, Kalyn, Kila, Tony, Kelli, Isaiah, and Robert Jr.; and girlfriend, Nancy. He also leaves behind a host of second cousins and other extended family, all of whom he loved very much. We will miss his contagious laughter, happy personality, bright smile and his big hugs.
Joseph was predeceased by his father Joseph E. Terry II, paternal grandparents, Joseph and Mary Terry, Uncle Thomas Terry, Cousins Robynn and Xhanay Terry and Michael Stafford. Throughout Joseph’s life, he made friends everywhere he went. Those friends, far too many to mention, will never forget him.
With Jo-Jo’s passing, we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated. Take time out every day to tell someone that you love them and are thankful for them, for tomorrow is not promised to us. Although we will miss him every day, especially his wonderful smile, and small acts of kindness, we will continue to rejoice and keep his spirit alive in our hearts and thoughts. In just his short time with us, he has left a lasting legacy. He was known as “Hastings little brother” and was like a little brother, yet a shoulder to cry on with all his friends.
