Joseph M Grabowski, 81 of, Thornwood, NY on July 22 after an extended illness. Born March 30, 1928 in Yonkers, NY, the son of Polish immigrants Macej Grabowski and Josefa Zaworska. Proudly performed at the 1939 World Fair in Flushing Meadows as a bugler with the Polish Boy Scouts of St. Casimir Parish. Attended Yonkers public schools graduating from Saunders Trades and Technical High School in 1946, machine shop program. Son of a patriotic family, grateful to enjoy the freedom and opportunity afforded by this Great Nation. Entered US Army 1946, serving in the US Army of Occupation (Japan) 1946-47, and US Army Air Corps, Berlin Airlift, RAF Base Burtonwood, 1948-49. Holder of the Army of Occupation and Humane Action service medals. . Married Pauline Helen Anton, also of Yonkers, NY, on May 1, 1954. Served 25 years with the United States Postal Service in Bronxville, NY. Member of American Legion Post 1574, Thornwood, NY, Burtonwood Association and American Postal Workers Union. Proud father of US Army SSGT Michael J Grabowski, who served two tours of duty in the Global War against Terrorism, Iraq. Survived by wife of 55 years of marriage Pauline Grabowski, children, Guy Edward, Michael Joseph, Robert Stephan and Laura Jean Ziegler, daughter in laws Ann A Grabowski and Irine Grabowski and four loving grandchildren, Andrew, Nickolas, Sarah and Emma Grabowski. Also Sister Lillian Puzio of Flemington NJ, and predeceased by sister Katherine (Kay) Senft and brothers CPO Edward Grabowski, US Navy combat veteran Pearl Harbor Survivor (USS Nevada) and Coral Sea (USS Lexington) engagements; and Lt. John Grabowski, also US Navy combat veteran (Okinawa invasion) and US Naval Reserve officer. The family is very grateful for all the efforts and loving care given over the past 4 years of Drs Dan Costin and Richard Chang and a host of staff at the Dickstein Cancer Treatment Center in White Plains and the White Plains Hospital staff. Reposing Sunday 2 PM Thru 6 PM at Hawthorne Funeral Home, Hawthorne, NY. Funeral Mass Monday 10 AM, Holy Name of Jesus Church, Valhalla, NY. Interment Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Yonkers, NY. In lieu of flowers donations to the Anatol & Arthur Charitable Foundation, at the Dickstein Cancer Treatment Center, 2 Longview Ave White Plains NY 10601 will assist in providing this wonderful work for others.
