It is with great shock and sadness that we announce the passing of Jonathan Jervis Lanman on April 19, 2015. He was 62 years old. Jon was predeceased by his wife Shelley Eudene Lanman. He is survived by his 3 children Adam, Ben and Nate, his brothers George and David in addition to his father in law Sid Eudene, several nieces and nephews, grand niece and nephew and cousins.
Jon grew up in Bellport, NY. He graduated from the Berkshire School in Sheffield, Mass., in 1971; from Brown University in 1975; and from Pace University School of Law (magna cum laude) in 2004.
Upon leaving Brown University, Jon worked for several years as an English teacher and soccer coach at the Berkshire School. He then went on to pursue his love of the English language and literature with Frederick S. Warne Publishing Company as a children’s book editor culminating as VP/Editorial Director of Atheneum Books for Young Readers, a division of Simon & Schuster.
At the ripe old age of 50, Jon’s mid-life crisis became a desire to change career paths and he chose the legal profession. In his inimitable style, he pursued the education with “vigah” and graduated third in his class. He practiced for over ten years with several law firms, most recently Walsh & Amicucci LLP in Purchase, NY.
He officially retired in 2014. He loved cooking and experimenting with exotic recipes; he diligently and successfully worked the weekly New York Times crossword puzzles (in pen). He wrote poetry, and enjoyed bicycling, hiking, and yoga, among a multitude of other interests. At the time of his death, he was living the life of leisure and devoting more time to his beloved sons.
A Memorial Service will be held on July 18, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at The Christ Episcopal Church, 64 South Country Road, Bellport, NY. A reception will follow at the Bellport Country Club, 40 South Country Road.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the American Heart Association: online to donatenow.heart.org. (go to “memorial” and add his name), or mail to the American Heart Association, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
