John S. Whearty

John S. Whearty 82, of Valhalla, N.Y. died on May 12, 2016. He was born on April 17, 1934 to the late James and Gertrude Whearty in Glen Cove, N.Y. He was the first Principal of Westlake High School, starting in the Fall of 1962 and later became Superintendent of Schools of the Mt.Pleasant Central School District, retiring after 34 years of service in 1996. John was a member of the Valhalla United Methodist Church, The Mt.Pleasant Rotary Club, Mt.Pleasant Community Theater and various Professional Organizations. He is survived by his devoted wife, Joan (nee White) Whearty of Valhalla, N.Y. and by his loving daughters, Noel Whearty of Valhalla, N.Y. and Merry (Jon) Thomas of Hawthorne, N.Y. also survived by his two cherished grandchildren, Justin and Nichole Thomas. Also survived by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his beloved son, John Whearty, Jr. in 1994 and by his two brothers, Robert and James Whearty. Reposing, Hawthorne Funeral Home on Friday, 4-8 PM. Funeral Service, will be held at Valhalla United Methodist Church, Saturday, 11 AM. Interment to follow at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y. In lieu of flowers donations in his name to Valhalla United Methodist Church, 200 Columbus Ave. Valhalla, N.Y. 10595 would be appreciated.
