John Vassallo, 87, of Parker, CO. formerly of White Plains, New York, passed away on October 17, 2013. John was born on June 23, 1926 on the kitchen table of his parent's house in Croton on Hudson, New York. His parents were Frank and Mary (Pettinato) Vassallo originally of Palermo, Sicily. He attended High School in Croton on Hudson and enlisted in the US Navy in 1944. He was decorated and served in the Pacific Theater. In 1947 he married Patricia Heckemeyer in New York. Patricia was originally from St. Louis, Missouri. John started employment as a gas station attendant at Texaco and worked for Texaco for over 25 years in roles including executive management. In later years, he was a chauffeur to the president of Manufacturers Hanover in NYC. John was an active member in New York religious parish, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and a member of the Greenburgh Republican Club. John is survived by his son, Dave, daughter-in-law, Deirdre, grandchildren, Matthew Hicks, Caitlin Vassallo, Brendan Vassallo and Meg Vassallo, and one great-grandchild, Maelle Hicks. He lived with Dave, Deirdre and his grandchildren in their home in Parker. John was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia in 2003 and children, Pam and John. Funeral Mass Saturday October 26, 2013 at 11 AM Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY, where entombment will follow.
