John J. Sammer 72, of Peekskill, NY formerly of Verplanck, NY passed away on Friday May 8, 2020 after a brave fight against COVID19. Born October 20, 1947 in Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Ryan) Sammer. He is survived by his sister Carol (Sammer) Michalec of Thornwood NY and his son Eric Sammer and wife Aida of San Francisco, CA. He is also survived by his nieces Deborah (Michalec) Frantzen of Blauvelt, NY and Laura (Michalec) Olszewski of Thornwood, NY. He was a retired lab technician from the Hudson Valley Blood Lab in Valhalla, New York. His proudest achievement during his career at various hospitals was when he detected an abnormality in a patient’s blood such that he called into question the orders of a doctor. Due to his efforts, the patient’s life was saved. Indeed, the CEO of the hospital personally thanked John for his skill and advocacy on the patient’s behalf. In retirement, John enjoyed traveling the world and ballroom dancing. His wit and humor will be missed by all. A Celebration of Life will be held in John’s honor at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John’s honor to Alcoholic’s Anonymous or a charity of your choice.
