John A. O'Boyle

John A. O'Boyle, 83, of White Plains, NY died on March 17, 2016 at home. He was the youngest of eight children born to Anthony and Mary Ann (Fox) O'Boyle on January 6, 1933 at Mount Cormac, Crossmolina, Co. Mayo, Ireland. He graduated from St. Muredach's College, Ballina, Co. Mayo. John immigrated to the United States in 1956 and served in the US Army (2 years in Korea), and honorably discharged December 1962 as a Sergeant. John married Rose Marie (Maureen) McArdle on May 6, 1961 in the Bronx, NY; they moved to their home in Greenburg in 1968. Predeceased by his wife Maureen (Oct 25, 2012), John is survived by this three children Marianne Koch McCarthy (Chris) of Greenwood Lake, NY, Sean O'Boyle (Sheila) of Darien, CT and Eileen Herte (Brian) of Tarrytown, NY. Also survived by his seven grandchildren Mary, Daniel and Ailish O'Boyle and Jack, Sam, Will and Pierce Herte; his brother Muredoch (Murd) O'Boyle and sister Constance (Jenny) Reape, both of Crossmolina, Co. Mayo, Ireland and many nieces and nephews here in the US as well as in Co. Mayo, Ireland. John was a mechanic and fleet supervisor at American Bakeries and Continental Bakeries, before retiring in 1998. John returned to the work force driving a school bus for children with disabilities for 13 years for the Southern Westchester Board of Cooperative Education Services where he truly enjoyed interacting with the children and their families. John and Maureen made many trips back to Ireland over the past 50 plus years. They also enjoyed summer vacations on Long Beach Island (New Jersey) and spending time with their 7 grandchildren. John was always quick to lend a helping hand – from fixing friends and families' cars and home appliances to volunteering with the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed photography and had a love for animals, especially his two dogs Shane and Trixie. Visitation is from 4 PM to 8 PM on Monday at the Hawthorne Funeral Home; Funeral Mass on Tuesday at 10 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, Elmsford, NY. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY
