Dr. John J. McIntyre, III of Bedford, New York and East Dorset, Vermont passed away peacefully at his home on July 11, 2023 surrounded by loving family. Son of John J. McIntyre, Jr. and Jeanne (Anderson) McIntyre, he was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1934 and attended Fort Hamilton High School and Oswego State Teachers' College. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Army where he served in a military intelligence unit in Alaska. Upon being discharged from the service, he taught Industrial Arts and Science to students on Long Island where he met the love of his life, and wife of 64 very happy years, Marie Mortelliti.
John and Marie were married in 1958. Shortly thereafter, John attended Fairleigh Dickenson University School of Dentistry from which he graduated in 1963. After graduation, John started his own dental practice in Elmsford, New York where he practiced dentistry for 35 years. He loved being a dentist and loved his patients. He was an active member of the Dental Society's Ninth District where he donated his time on various committees. In 2006, he was honored with the D. Austin Sniffen 9th District Medal of Honor for his many years of service.
John was an active athlete through much of his life. He learned to ice skate and play ice hockey on the rink at Flagg Court in Brooklyn. John also was an accomplished swimmer, working as a lifeguard on the beach in Coney Island. He ran marathons and triathalons, and was an avid skier into his 70s. But most of all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who loved nothing more than spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Marie, daughter Marie McIntyre Tracy (Robert), son John, daughter Joanne Mengel (David), and son Robert (Nadya), and by grandchildren, Kathryn Tracy, Chris Mengel, Maura Tracy (Nicholas), Ryan Mengel, Kelly Mengel, Gabrielle McIntyre, Alexandra McIntyre, and Gunnar McIntyre.
