John P. McGloine, Age 84
Born in Queens, NY on December 15, 1927, he entered the US Army after high school and served in the occupation Army in Japan. He attended St. John's University graduating with an accounting degree. John's business career was spent in accounting and management consulting, with the last 25 years in various positions with the Westchester County Dept. of Parks until his retirement in 2009. John was an avid skier his entire life until his final run at age 81 made him finally hang up the skis but they will be buried with him. He enjoyed watching the NY Rangers, Yankees and Giants, but his greatest passion was politics. John participated in the first March for Life in NYC and Washington DC and many others. He ran for various political offices in the Town of Greenburgh and county to stand up for his principles. As the Greenburgh Conservative Party Town Chairman for over 25 years and as a NY State Committeeman, he never tired of fighting on the side of life. A man of strong principles, he never wavered in defense of his country, his faith or the unborn. John enjoyed participating in the NYC St. Patrick's Day Parade as a parade route guardian and also helped mentor foreign speaking students at Westchester County Community College. He is survived by his son, Major (Ret) Thomas McGloine of Schuylerville, NY; his daughter, Katherine Sheldahl of Brighton, CO; daughter-in-law Deborah McGloine; son-in law Jeffery Sheldahl and grandchildren Patrick and Mary Katherine McGloine and Ariana Sheldahl.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his name to a favored charity, the Rosary Hill Home, Hawthorne, NY or a charity of your choice which you feel memorializes his life.
