John Patrick Baxter, 88, treasured patriarch and a friend to many, passed away on January 4th, 2024 in his North White Plains residence. Born on December 4th, 1935 to the late Mary Blessing and Michael Baxter, John's life was one marked by resilience, dedication, and the warmth of his engaging personality.
John, former resident of Hawthorne for 30 years, grew up in Carrigallen, County Leitrim, Ireland. He was educated in Ireland, and came to the U.S. in 1959. On August 18, 1962, John married his lifelong love, Ellen Corroon, and together they built a life rich in laughter and love. Their union was blessed with a daughter, Geraldine, who in turn filled John's life with the joy of two granddaughters: Coleen and Patricia. He worked for the Town of Scarsdale, N.Y as a Machine Operator up until his well earned retirement. John loved his Irish Heritage. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 17 in White Plains. He was an avid New York Yankees and Jets fan. His hobbies included golfing, gardening, and traveling. His beachside condo during New York's frigid winters, were the backdrop for cherished memories.
John was predeceased by his parents. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Baxter, daughter Geraldine De Lanoy (Michael De Lanoy) of Brewster N.Y; his adored grandchildren; Coleen and Patricia De Lanoy, and numerous nieces and nephews who will continue to walk in the light of his wisdom.
Family and friends will honor and remember John's life by gathering for a time of visitation on Thursday, January 11th, 2024 from 4-8pm at the Hawthorne Funeral Home, 21 West Stevens Ave in Hawthorne. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday January 12th at 10am in Holy Rosary Church, 170 Bradhurst Ave. in Hawthorne. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
John Patrick Baxter will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him. His was a life well-lived, full of purpose, joy and an abundance of love.
