John Alfero, 84, was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. He passed away on June 3, 2024, in his home in Mahopac, New York. He was born to Carmine and Marian Alfero in White Plains, NY on November 28, 1939. He worked in the restaurant business, and many people have fond memories not only of Alfero's Restaurant in West Harrison but also of the Beer Garden overlooking Kensico Reservoir. John loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed traveling to Sicily with his wife, exploring national parks with family, and visiting Hawaii for the first time at 82. He was self-taught, loved learning all he could about a myriad of subjects through reading, and was passionate about art, antiques, watches, and history.
He is survived by his three devoted children, Veronica Alfero of Eugene, Oregon, Mark C. Alfero of Los Lunas, New Mexico, and Gerry J. Alfero of Purdys, New York and by his brother Anthony F. Alfero of Sloatsburg, New York. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Matthew C. McGlade of Astoria, New York, Alexandra E. Waller of Mill Valley, California, Anastasia L. McGlade of Los Angeles, California, and Larissa P. McGlade of Eugene, Oregon. He was thrilled to be a great grandfather to Vanessa and Olivia Waller of Mill Valley, CA. He is predeceased by his loving wife Barbara A. Alfero and his half-sister Jean C. Ristaino.
