Joan H Gerard

Joan Levy Gerard (nee Katz), age 77, died peacefully at her home on April 5, 2013. Beloved wife of Ronald, mother of Susan Pollack and David Levy, grandmother of Brett and Jake Levy and Jordan, Justin and Rachel Pollack, mother-in-law of Bruce Pollack and Niki Levy. A graduate of Smith College, she was a first grade teacher and worked in the camping and hotel industries but became one of the top tournament bridge administrators in the world. A member of the Board of Directors of the American Contract Bridge League from 1985 to 2011, President of that organization in 1992, Chairman of its Board in 1993, member of the Executive Council of the World Bridge Federation from 1999 to 2013, chairman of its Appeals Committee and member of its Laws Drafting Committee, she was recognized as an outstanding meeting planner and problem solver who deserved the title "Earth Mother to the Bridge World." More than that, she was a wise, caring person, loved by her family and friends. Services Sunday 11 AM at Congregation B'nai Yisrael, 2 Banksville Road, Armonk, NY, followed by graveside ceremony at Union Field Cemetery in Queens.
