James Francis Curtin

James F. Curtin entered into eternal rest at the age of 92 on November 10, 2016. His loving wife and family were by his side at the NYS Veteran's Home in Montrose at the time of his passing. Jim was born in NYC in 1924, the fourth child of Catherine (Smyth) and Austin Curtin, He grew up in NYC and attended City College. During WWII he proudly served in the US Army in the European Theatre in Belgium and France. He left the service 3 years later at the end of the war and returned to civilian life. He began a career at General Foods Corporation in Manhattan as a Financial Analyst and met his wife Anne McGurl. They were married on June 4, 1949 at St. Raymond's Church in the Bronx and moved to Elmsford, New York 5 years later. They raised 5 children and spent the rest of their lives together - separated only by his passing. Jim was a member of the Holy Name Society at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Elmsford and Elmsford's Treasurer for two years. He loved coaching little league teams, bowling and in later life playing golf and bocce. All his life he was an avid NY Giant and Yankee Fan. He also never missed a televised Notre Dame Football game. He retired from General Foods / Kraft after 39 years of service. Anne and Jim spent their retirement years happily "snowbirding" between a summer home in Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania and a residence in Hutchinson Island, Florida. Survivors include his wife Anne, his sister Catherine Godfrey and his sister-in-law Eileen McGurl. He is survived by his 5 children: daughters Anne Hyland and Patricia Grissom & her husband Lee; sons James J. Curtin, Daniel F. Curtin & his wife Donna, John E. Curtin. They have 10 grandchildren: Daniel, Shannon, Patrick, Stephen, Colleen, Caitlin, Courtney, Scott, Helyn and Kevin; and 2 great-grandchildren: Riley and Bodi.
