James Carrea

James Carrea, age 73, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his cherished family. He was born on August 1, 1950 in Colledimezzo, Italy to Lorenzo and Concetta (Olivieri) Carrea. He came to the United States in 1955 and resided in Elmsford, NY. He graduated as a Structural Engineer from Syracuse University in 1973. He was married to Mirella (Simonetti) Carrea on August 18, 1973. He was predeceased by his daughter, Cristina, his father, Lorenzo and his mother, Concetta.

James is survived by his wife, Mirella, his 2 children Stefanie and James (Mary) Carrea. He is also survived by his 3 granddaughters, Elisa, Lydia and Vivian. He was a beloved brother to Ernesina (Randy) Cairns, Lorenzo (Kathy) Carrea and Louise Carrea. He was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. To him, family was everything and he would go above and beyond for them.

He was proud of his Italian heritage and returned to his hometown Colledimezzo, every summer with his family. He was excited to continue this tradition with his granddaughters last year.

He enjoyed numerous "adventures" on his boat with his family and friends. He was an avid golfer, a shuffleboard extraordinaire, as well as a partner in Simcari Wine. He was a member of the American Italian Club for over 50 years and was known for his famous stuffed lobsters.

He was the proud owner of Carrea & Sons and carried on the family business for over 40 years. After retirement, he was very involved as a Board Member and attended monthly meetings where much was discussed but nothing was accomplished. He recently took up pizzelle making and could always be found outside sun tanning and listening to music.

Please join us in celebrating his life with visitation on Friday, June 21, 2024 from 4pm-8pm at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home at 72 East Main Street, Elmsford, NY. A Mass will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 10am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Elmsford, NY.
