Born on April 17, 1919 Departed on March 8, 2017

Jack Schwartz of Hartsdale, NY, a tailor and Holocaust survivor, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday morning. He was 97 years old.

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Aloni and her husband, David Aloni; and his three grandchildren, Zvika, Revital and Mairav. His wife of 63 years, Jeanette, predeceased him.

Jack was born in 1919 in Drobnin, Poland. After the Nazi occupation of Poland his family was sent to a ghetto, and he was ultimately deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp in November 1942. His parents and twelve year old brother perished in the gas chambers of Auschwitz. His sister, Helen Papier, also survived Auschwitz and passed away several years ago. He was sent on the death marches and liberated by the American Army in Germany in the spring of 1945.

He married Jeanette in a displaced persons camp in Kassel, Germany in 1948 and arrived to White Plains, NY in June 1949. He worked as a tailor in Westchester until he was 87 years old. He took great pride and joy in his family and his work. He will be deeply missed.
